Today, I received emails titled "Heal your gut" and "Jump into a gut healing reset," which got me thinking about the perception of healing. It made me think that powerful words like HEAL get overused and then they lose their true meaning and therefore their VALUE!

Does the word "healing" imply a one-time fix, a protocol, a 100% restoration, or a miracle to you?

I a million times over believe in healing. I believe the body is designed and wired to heal. I’ve seen miraculous healings and experienced gradual healing myself. I believe in all the words that healing means…. save, rescue, cure, make healthful, restore, serve, treat. I’m just concerned that the perception of healing to some means you get it and then you’re fixed, no need to do anything more.

Ummm no.

Healing should be understood not just as a moment of change—whether miraculous or gradual—but as a sustained upkeep. Healing is ongoing care, attention, appreciation and action. It requires you to treasure your 2nd chance and want to put effort into keeping it.

To better understand this continuous healing journey, I made an acronym for how I see the word HEAL:

  • Honour: Prioritise your health over temporary pleasures or detrimental habits. Honouring your health means consistently choosing what benefits you in the long run. Honour simply means to prefer, to place value above. Honour is a choice you practice that leads you to be fully convinced, even if it’s difficult in the moment. Prefer health, not size.
  • Educate: Be interested in learning about your body and the truths that influence your health in each season of your life. Gaining understanding of the why and how behind dietary choices, exercise, and body management gives lifelong assurance and hope.
  • Abide: Stay steadfast in healthy practices, even when they seem unconventional compared to the new trend. Consistency in foundational habits is key to long-term wellness.
  • Love: Find joy in living a healthy lifestyle that's not dictated by products but driven by purpose. Love and value for healthy practices stems from the confidence that they enhance your life and enable you to fulfill your purpose.

While miraculous recoveries do happen, true healing is more about being at peace and finding joy in the ongoing process of maintaining good health. It's crucial to understand that nurturing our bodies is a continuous journey. Your healing is not when you get to your dress size but it’s giving yourself the full potential to live well.
